Now the 2024 MLB draft order has been selected, with Cleveland getting the first pick, Mock Draft lists are out from Baseball America, Perfect Game, PBR, MLB.com, FSS Plus, Prospect Journal and MyMLBDraft. JJ Wetherholt, Nick Kurtz and Travis Bazzana consistently bubble to the top of the list. Outside of those top three picks, the boards are all over the place. I aggregated the six different forecasts into the “wisdom of crowds” with a few adjustments for the dispersion and landed on the following.
MLB Consensus Draft List – December

This list doesn’t take into account team’s draft needs, draft styles or player bonus requirements, which make the actual draft much more complicated.
College vs Prep Players
Below the top three, Jac Caglianone is the only player that makes everyone’s top 10. Chase Burns is up there as well with the exception of PBR and Konnor Griffin just barely misses with FSS. The draft is very college heavy with only Griffin, PJ Morlando and Cam Caminiti cracking the top 15.
Positions
You’ll notice this is an odd draft. Unlike most years, there very few all around athletes in the draft – shortstops and centerfielders – and very few pitchers and no catchers. The exceptions to this on the athletic side are Vancy Honeycutt, Konnor Griffin and possibly Braden Montgomery. What 2024 is lacking it makes up in big, power guys such as Nick Kurtz, Jac Caglianone, Charlie Condon, Tommy White (though less so in size) and Griffin. It also has some intriguing two-way players including Caglianone, Montgomery and Cam Caminiti. Griffin and Honeycutt are the only fast plus runners, but not likely to break any records for MLB 30 times. As a side note, both Griffin and Caminiti reclassed forward to make them younger for this draft.
With few leaders, the draft is wide open and will evolve significantly over the next seven months. We’ll have to see how the outlook evolves through the college and preseason and whether a surprise like Jackson Holliday emerges in the spring. Just because one of these players is selected in the first round doesn’t mean they’ll climb to the majors. See how often 1st round picks make MLB teams.
