2024 MLB Consensus Mock Draft: March 2024 Update

See the April MLB Amateur Mock Draft update for the latests.

Once again, it’s time to refresh the 2024 MLB draft outlook. In this view, I added CBS and ESPN bringing the total count of mock drafts captured to ten. Once again, the top of the list hasn’t changed materially. The top four continue to be led by JJ Wetherholt, Nick Kurtz, Travis Bazzana and Jac Caglianone with the top two clearly separated from the next two. There’s then another gap as we jump to Vance Honeycutt and Charlie Condon at fifth and sixth. After Condon, there we begin to see more dispersion in forecasters’ crystal balls. Burns ranges from 2nd to 15th and Griffen from 5th to 16th. For more information on the top prospects, order BA’s 2024 Prospect Handbook.

For March, I’ve expanded the view to the full first round.

As we break this list apart, there continues to be a lack of prep players in the top ten with Griffin the only one to be considered a part of that group. We don’t see any college shortstops and the first one isn’t taken until #20 with Caleb Bonemer. Beyond Burns and a couple of two-way guys that likely won’t pitch, we don’t see additional pitchers until 13-15 with Hartle, Brecht and Smith

Additionally, I think the top 25 is pretty solid as a group of first round targets. Numbers 26-30 required some interpretation and could drop out in the next version. Overall, it continues to look like an odd, mediocre draft with few premium players at premium positions.

The next update should show more movement as well be six weeks into the college season and a month into the high school season. As of today, Charlie Condon is the big winner and should move up toward the top 3. He leads the country in slugging percentage at 1.417 and 3rd in OBP .696 making him the OPS leader. Travis Bazzana is 16th in slugging at 1.057. Konnor Griffin is hitting .645 with 3 home runs and is a winner to date as well.
