We’re officially two months away from the 2024 MLB amateur draft and a clear picture of the top players is emerging. High school seasons are winding down with many southern schools in playoffs, so the chances of scouts seeing Konnor Griffin and Bryce Rainer as waning.
As we look at the consensus view of the top players, the first tier is Charlie Condon, Jac Caglianone and Travis Bazzana. One of those could cut an underslot deal with Cleveland to go first. Landing at four and five are the two pitchers who’ve led the pack for this position all season – Chase Burns and Hagan Smith. Burns comes in a slot higher, though there’s a slightly wider spectrum of opinion about him. It will also depend on whether a team wants a righty or lefty. JJ Wetherholt, Nick Kurtz, Braden Montgomery, Konnor Griffin and Seaver King round out the top 10.
For prep players, Griffin has led the race for the entire run of the year, but Bryce Rainer has emerged in the last month to challenge him. Both are potential two-way guys, but project on the field. How early they go may depend on the timing of some of the rebuilding teams.

This composite now includes projections from Baseball America, MLB, PBR, PG, Future Stars, Prospect Journal, The Athletic, MyMLBDraft and now Flo Baseball. Take a look here, to see how much MLB first round draft pick bonuses average.
