The National Team Development Program (NTDP) fits in between the 15u National Team and 18u National Team in the USA Baseball programming cycle for 16u and 17u players who are generally rising juniors. It’s the big bother of ADP, which is for the 13u and 14u group. NTDP consists of four days of training, seminars and games for the top 72 players in the country who are identified at either the National Teams Championship (NTC) tournament or though NTIS. Players are split into four teams of 18. Pitchers generally get two innings and position players nine to ten at bats. Coaches include former pros as well as current college and high school coaches. NTDP is fully funded by USA Baseball, which covers transportation, housing and food for the event.

The event is held in Cary, North Carolina and well attended by coaches from the top SEC, ACC and Big 10 programs with several head coaches making the trip to watch the six games. In addition to games and training, players’ prospect development pipeline (PDP) metrics are captured including their 30 time, broad jumps distance and grip strength. Participants also are included in the Panini Stars and Stripes card series the following year.

The 2025 program included four of Baseball America’s top 10 class of 2027 players including #2 Jacob Seamon, #3 Max Hemenway, #4 Jared Grindlinger and #6 Chase Fuller. #1 Dylan Seward participated in the 18u National Team Trials the previous week.

If you’re at NTDP, it’s probably time to start thinking about how to hire a baseball agent.
